Who's Who:
Sally Bruce - Solo Trombone. (By the way the photograph, below, wasn't taken in prison...!!)
At last...Sally writes: I always liked music & learnt to play the recorder in the infant school (didn’t we all? - yeah!). I was singing in the school choir when my music teacher asked me if I wanted to play a musical instrument (I think he was trying to tell me that I can’t sing!). My cousin was playing the trombone at the time and I thought that I wouldn’t mind a go at that. I was given a beaten up trombone and began lessons. After a short time my brass teacher asked me if I wanted to learn the French horn. I said 'no thanks I like the trombone' (perhaps he thought I was rubbish! - no, surely not!). Anyway, in the summer of 1982 my friend Sos asked me if I would help him out at a concert as his band was a bit short of trombones. This was the Rushden Windmill 'B' Band who later became the Rushden Working Mens Club Band (now Rushden Town Band) – I stayed with them for about 4 years. I moved to Corby Silver Band where I met Debbie Beech.
'Our Sal' - with the Rushden Town Band (1986), top right, complete with 'mullet' style 'hair-do'! I had a great time there for about 10 years and felt that it was time for a change so one cold Sunday morning in October 1995 I drove to a Windmill rehearsal and asked Martin if there was a vacancy. I’ve been here ever since!! Sally is also a member of 'Boobs and Brass' and is an Accountant by profession!!!
'Close' the window to go back to the 'Who's who' list!!
