07.03.05 - Midlands Area 3rd Section Results - Our first foray into the 3rd Section for a couple of years was NOT as successful as we would have hoped - playing the very difficult Tam 'o' Shanter's Ride (Wright), we were placed 11th (out of 19) with 176 points. John Berryman was adjudicating and his remarks were centred almost entirely on tuning - and very little else. Whilst tuning is important, we felt that the 'whole' performance should be judged rather than just one element. We did not play as well as we could have done, but NO band on the day gave a totally unblemished performance and we thought 11th was a little harsh.
However, 'hey-ho' - this WAS our first time in the 3rd Section since 2002 and (as they say) 'we'll be back' AND (with tongue firmly in cheek) John Berryman ...we know where YOU live...!!!
01.01.05 - The Rushden Windmill Band is particularly pleased to welcome back Debbie Beech into the Horn section. Debbie left the band a few years ago and as I sit here and drift back to the 1970's I am, eerily, reminded of the old (yes I AM that old !!!) 'Eagles' song 'Hotel California' and I quote...
"...You can
check out any time you like,
And as I fall back into the present century (kicking and screaming) I realise that Debbie is far to young to have any idea what I am talking about...!!! She will, however, have to put up with her fellow 'hornists' - Bill and Martin....how us girls suffer for our art...!!!
