News for 2004:
'Close' the window to return to the current year 'news' items.
28.11.04 - What a fantastic year we've had. At the West Midlands Brass Band Association Contest (WMBBA), held in Leamington Spa, the band took 1st place in the 4th section for the second year running. We played the '2004 final's' test piece, The Four Noble Truths (Philip Sparke), and adjudicator Stan Lippeatt awarded us 178 points. Spookily this means that in our last three contests we have been given the same score - 178 (see 'news' stories below). As said before the band move up into the 3rd section for 2005 - will 'lucky 178' still hold...watch this space.
28.11.04 - Following the 'WMBBA' contest held at Leamington Spa (see 'news' story above) the band has been reorganised to accommodate a couple of players who are leaving.
Sadly this means that we say goodbye to Michael Bruce, who is leaving due to work commitments, and Rebecca Hays, who is leaving to concentrate on her 'A level' studies. Both will be sorely missed - although, hopefully, we haven't seen the last of them and that they may return when circumstances allow.
This means that Elaine Hanson moves back into the Trombone section, Roger Malivoire shifts up to Solo Baritone and Sarah Bates moves from the Horns and slots in to the Second Baritone position. Go to the 'Who's Who' section to see the updated Personnel listings and info.
12.09.04 - On Saturday, 11th September 2004 we competed in the 4th section of the Besson National Brass Band Championship Finals at the Harrogate International Centre. We qualified for this event last March (see earlier news story). Playing the set piece, The Four Noble Truths by Philip Sparke, the band (well Kevin, actually!!) drew number 11. We were placed a VERY creditable 7th (attaining 178 points), just outside the announced top 6. One of the adjudicators, Frank Renton (he of 'Listen to the Band' fame...!!) gave, I thought, a fair appraisal of the competition as we waited for the results.
We didn't achieve a top spot - which was a little disappointing, as we felt we could have played a bit better...BUT...we did our best and we had a good time and enjoyed the occasion. Talking of which...a selection of photographs of what we got up to in Harrogate WILL appear on the 'Archive Pictures' page soon - watch this space.

08.04.04 - It's official!!! This week, the Rushden Windmill Band received confirmation that after only 2 years in the 4th section they will be promoted back to the 3rd section, from January 2005. Well done EVERYONE!!
14.03.04 - On Sunday, 14th March 2004 Rushden Windmill Band become Midlands Area 4th Section Champions. Playing the set piece, Partita (Edward Gregson) and judged by Roy Roe, we scored 178 points. We qualified for the finals, to be held in Harrogate in September. Joining us, representing the Midlands Area, will be Newhall and Matlock. Pleasingly, (for us) Roy Roe said that he knew his winners from the first few notes, but overall his comments were destructive rather than constructive. See the full results and retrospective comments on 4barsrest.com.
Anyway... ...who cares what anyone else thinks...
....WE WON!!!!!
