The Rushden Windmill Band (a.k.a. Rushden Temperance Band 'The Temps') have in their possession a marvellous collection of newspaper cuttings dating back to the beginning of the 20th century. Most are taken from the BRITISH BANDSMAN and local journals. 'Band are back - blowing their own trumpets.' (Evening Telegraph) The title is another cringe inducing headline, but ANY publicity is GOOD publicity!!
Clearly showing off some trophies - the article stated that the band were celebrating 'success' after almost folding. Martin Dawson is quoted as being the new Musical Director and the band were about to apply for a Lottery Grant to replace all the instruments. Hopefully, I'll be able to get a bit more information and date for this picture - come back soon!!!
