Rushden Temperance Band - Belle View, Manchester 1961.

This picture was one of four sent to the Band by David Gomm - a cornet player with the 'Temps' in the early 60's. David now lives in South London.

Those pictured are as follows:

Conductor: Bill Scholes.

Front Row Cornets: Ernie Denton, Vic Tomkins, John Brown, Freddie Wiggins.

Soprano: Roly Henson. Repiano: Barry Turner

2nd Cornets: Harry Hartwell, John Higgins. 3rd Cornets: Albert Batts, David Gomm.

Flugel: Harry Boyce. Horns: John & Gordon Robinson, Percy Long.

Euphonium: Willie Frazer, Dennis Denton.

Baritone: John Howard, Sonny Stanley.

Trombones: Ron Benning, Horace Peacock and Graham ???

EEb Basses: Norman Tomknis, Wally Seamarks (Not too sure tho').

BBb Basses: Jack Scholes, Tommy Oram.

In addition, David writes:

'This photograph was taken at Belle Vue, Manchester, during the British Open. Note the odd seating arrangements - with the flugel sitting next to the horns and the cornets both sides of the band. This was because part of the test piece was written for 4 horns. To even things up a bit the 3rd cornets were put next to the flugel.

Thank you David - take a look at the other pictures David has sent by returning to the 'archive photo's' page.
