The Rushden Windmill Band (a.k.a. Rushden Temperance Band 'The Temps') have in their possession a marvellous collection of newspaper cuttings dating back to the beginning of the 20th century. Most are taken from the BRITISH BANDSMAN and local journals.

Daily Herald Championship Results - 1953.

The Rushden Temperance Band 'live' on stage at the Empress Hall - 17th October 1953.

The test-piece was 'Diadem of Gold' (G. Bailey)...and the results:

  1. Foden's Motor Works (Harry Mortimer).
  2. C.W.S. Manchester.
  3. Cresswell Colliery.
  4. Rushden Temperance Band. (W.A. Scholes).

The Adjudicator's were J.A. Greenwood (former Pro. Conductor of the 'Temps') and, another writer of marches, T. J. Powell - Frank Wright was the 'Referee'!
