High note for Ian.
RUSHDEN
cornet player Ian MacDonald
proved to be top of the pops at a brass band contest staged at
Clacton-on-Sea. Ian,
of Brookfield Road, took first place in the soprano section with a
tune called Dimensions, accompanied by his colleagues in the
Windmill Band.
He beat eight
other players to scoop the top prize - and went home with a cup for
his trouble. but the band itself did not leave the seaside resort
empty handed either, winning two titles at the festival. The 30
strong outfit's rendition of a tune called Symarain (..or perhaps 'Simoraine'!!)
sruck the right note with the judges and won first place in the in
march class.
And the
Rushden Windmill's
collective performance of Dimensions bettered nine others to scoop
the top prize in the second section, for the bands in the southern
area of the country.
Along with the
cup, the group won £150 - which will go towards paying the £170
coach bill.
Clearly, the
reporter had no idea of what he was actually reporting on, but as they
say...any publicity is good publicity!!! Now let's move on a couple of
years...
