Rushden Town Band - 1986.
I've used this photo' (courtesy of the Rushden Town Band web site) 'cos' Sally's in it, (top row, far right) and so is Sarah (bottom row, far right), so it's good for a laugh...!!!
The
Rushden Town
Band
was originally formed in 1979 as the
Rushden Windmill
'B' Band,
with Peter Berrington as conductor.
The band had about 10 junior/learner
players, plus some interested adults. This band
also rehearsed at the
Windmill Club.
In 1983 the
'B'
band moved from the
Windmill Club
and into the Working Men's Club
(switching allegiances 'eh'..!!) in Griffith Street,
Rushden
and from whence it became known as.....The
Working Men's Club Band (catchy, original name -
wouldn't you say...!). At this time Kevin Nichols became
the band's Musical Director
and actively encouraged new players to join.
By 1986
(when this photo' was taken) the band felt
it was ready to begin contesting and they
were quickly rewarded for their efforts by qualifying for the
National Finals of that year in the 4th
Section.
