Rushden Windmill Band are pleased to announce Nathan Waterman as our new MD up until the Area Finals on the 10th March 2012.
Nathan will also be conducting the concert set for the 17th February 2012 at St Peters Church, Rushden. This is great news for the band who are currently joint first in the grading table for the Midlands Area Championships, with the possibility of moving up to division 2 with a good result, so Nathans help couldnt have been better timed. Nathan Quotes..."Windmill and l go back a long way and l consider many of the players to be among my closest friends. I am delighted to be able to help out even for a short time and l know the Band will continue to be one of the friendliest and most committed in Northamptonshire" The band has already thoroughly enjoyed the last week with Nathan and can't thank him enough for sparing time in his already very busy schedule!!!!! |

Extract from GUS Virtuosi Band Website Nathan began his musical life at the age of seven playing the violin. He was playing with the Nene Valley Orchestra (Oundle) by the age of ten but soon became aware that the Brass Section always seemed to have more fun! He was twelve when he plucked up the courage to tell his violin tutor that he had been fraternising with the enemy (Thrapston Town Band). To which the tutor said "whatever you do, don't give up the violin!". Well, Nathan always listens to advice and soon after gave up the classical world for a life of debauchery. After many happy years at Thrapston and Rushden Windmill Band, Nathan had the chance to audition for the then Rigid Containers Group Band under John Berryman and was successful in attaining the Principal Horn Seat. This was 1991 and there followed seven more enjoyable and successful years until he moved on to pastures new in 1998. A short time at Bedford Town Band followed and then on to the Kibworth Band where, coincidently, John Berryman had also migrated. After spending many enjoyable years at Kibworth, in which time he formed and conducted a youth band called The Kiblets, Nathan has returned to his much beloved GUS. There have been many highlights in his playing life but the best have to be playing with the Wallace Collection (Cyfarthfa Band project which predated the start of Brass Bands in this country) and with Rod Franks and Maurice Murphy et al on the soundtrack to Evita. |
